Woohoo!!!!!!! My Makeup by Wendy (my favorite lady of course) made it to day 2!

Feels so great to have eye lashes and eyebrows even if it’s only 2 days! Even my ladies at the Starbucks drive-through today were stunned and complementing my eyes!!!! Funny how something as little as eyelashes you have no idea how thankful you should be until you lose them…… So many things in life I took for granted until going through this, but if anything it has only made me stronger, more thankful to be alive (trust me things could be soooo much worse) and I know I am going to beat this (I have never believed cancer would beat me, just taking longer than I originally imagined, hope this doesn’t mean I am in denial, lol). ~ Jamie Makeup by: https://www.facebook.com/makeupbywendy...
Staph Infection?????

Staph Infection?????

All Red, Not Good Keep getting ear infections (since February), have a hole in my eardrum, lost part of my hearing and report kind of looks like I have several bacterial infections including staph. Started Levaquin 2 days ago, this is the first time I have seen results like this. Super tired most of the time, so hoping antibiotics will clear this up and maybe I will feel a little better. ~...

Never Ending Chemo, Down Today

Never Ending Chemo, Down Today

Down for the day, wiped out and can hardly make it to the bathroom. Attempted to try to get up around 4 pm, hoping to get something accomplished today. Had a bowl of cereal, which was very hard to do and still 0 energy so back in bed. Same chemo (few dose adjustments over years) I have been on forever (June 2012). Peppy, my cancer kitty in pic with me always by my side!!!!!!! Hoping tomorrow will be a better day ~...

Chemo Wednesday, PET Scan Results & Golf Tournament Work

Spent chemo Wednesday and PET scan test result day with Nancy. I was EXTREMELY NERVOUS about my results since my previous scan 2 months earlier was not looking to good. During my last appointment we discussed the possibility of changing my chemo back to more frequent but lower doses. Thank God the results were STABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! After a very long day at MD Anderson I still had energy, so we went on a Jamie’s Hope Golf Tournament mission. There was a flyer explosion in the waiting areas!! Flyers on the first floor by the ballon heart. Flyers for the coffee drinkers on the 2nd floor waiting area where you check in to Chemo. More flyers here!! Flyers over there!!! Then last spot finally Nancy leaving flyers on the ATM machine on the way out of MD Anderson ~...

Weekly Update (1 of 3) – Jamie / Hair Falling Out Again :(

Weekly Update (1 of 3) – Jamie / Hair Falling Out Again :(

Update 1 (1 of 3) : Hair started falling out again Doesn’t look like I will have hair much longer, picture shows how much fell out in the morning only and it has been like this for over a week. Not really sure what’s going on. My Hair History: Last July/August 2012 in the church parking lot was the first time I noticed it falling out. My hair was very long and this was the first time I lost my hair due to cancer (had cancer 3 previous times, but was treated with surgery and radiation). Around May/June 2013 my hair started growing a little after my chemo regimen was altered. Since then it seems like it would get little growing spurts when I was in between chemo cycles. It was still less than what I had before and seemed thinner, but I was thankful to have any hair. Last Sunday once again we were in the church parking lot and bye bye hair. I noticed a ton of shedding and wasn’t sure what to think, but it has continued to fall out by the handfuls. Our pet roller I used for our cat has now become my everyday tool, lol!!! ~...
Late Chemo / People Staring At Me – Pink Hair & Hat

Late Chemo / People Staring At Me – Pink Hair & Hat

Posting this a little late, was super busy working late night during chemo and didn’t get done at MD Anderson until about 10 pm last night. Interesting thing I have noticed with pink hair is people stare at me and I even felt like I was getting some dirty looks. When I had no hair, I think people knew what I was going through and tried not to make it obvious they were staring. We teach our kids not to stare and point fingers when they see signs of an obvious medical condition because we feel it’s rude, but pink hair from what I have noticed doesn’t fall into that category. I definitely get very obvious head turning and surprisingly I don’t think people realize that it is pink due to Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Luckily when my pink hair is out of control I have a little pink Texans hat to cover it up ~...

Battle Wound from IV / Blood work, Labs and Scans

Battle Wound from IV / Blood work, Labs and Scans

Battle wounds from 2 IV’s over the past week for the PET and CT scans and lab work yesterday:( The good news is for both IV’s they got it on the first try and no fainting episodes!!!!!!!! I got their names so I can ask for the ladies up at MD next time I have a scan, lol. Kind of like my blood draws, Jewels is my lab lady every Monday. Once I found her, since I am a fainter, I started requesting her every time. Before Jewels I was a disaster when it came time to draw blood, but since her I am no longer afraid. She has been drawing my blood for almost a year in June (since I started chemo) and has never missed. I am so thankful to have met her and she helped me get over my fear. However, in the event of her absence I have to ask for a senior tech Next post is chemo update and scan results. Sharing pictures of my tumor on the next post....

Chemo Monday – Tuesday

Finally leaving from chemo, crazy how busy MDA is after a holiday! Exhausted!! Time to head home & get some rest… Gotta be at the Jamie’s Hope office in the morning – we have events to prepare for! What is up with starvation after leaving md???? I get a steroid in my pre meds because I had toxicity of the lungs, wondering if it can kick in and make you hungry in such a small amount of time….. My luggage and I are getting in the car, yay!!!!! So almost got in trouble with my doctor again for bringing too much stuff again, but the bag is full of magazines I was going to leave at the MD library for the patients. I was supposed to go through them to get them organized for my drop off, but didn’t get to it. (Trying again on Wednesday) Back again on Wednesday for another appointment. Have had some recent episodes where I took a step and could no longer move or walk at all. Almost fell apart at cvs when this continued to go on for about 20 minutes. One of my daughters school pta moms actually saw me while she was in the Starbucks line (memorial dr.) completely freeze in the middle of the parking lot and then a few minutes later after stretching limped my way in. She came inside and insisted in a nice way (not pushy at all) to help me with my shopping. I kept telling her I was fine and didn’t need help (was very worried I might of seemed rude), however I was really...
Chemo / Possible Blood Clot

Chemo / Possible Blood Clot

Chemo day 1 of 3rd cycle yesterday. Pain in right arm, possible blood clot and not able to use my port. 1 Iv miss yesterday (small blueish swollen spot), had to use baby needle and got it near the wrist. Chemo took a little longer since they had to slow the drip. One of the meds burns the veins when it goes in when using veins in my arm and not the port. However, got out in time to make it to the Paul McCartney concert with Michael and...

Jamie’s Hope featured in MD Anderson’s Promise Publication

Jamie hopes for a cure One patient’s rare cancer inspires collective effort Promise – Fall 2012 – By Erica Quiroz Jamie Gilmore is a fighter. In 1996, she was diagnosed with acinic cell carcinoma (ACC), a rare cancer that affects the parotid gland, the largest of the salivary glands. She’s been in remission from it twice. Now, the 30-year-old native Houstonian is in her third bout with ACC. She created Jamie’s Hope for a Cure with her husband, Garrick Glascock, in May to help fund research for targeted therapy at MD Anderson. “My family and I were surprised that there haven’t been any new developments in ACC treatment,” Jamie Gilmore says. “We thought surely something would be different from 15 years ago.” ACC affects an average of 135 people a year and accounts for 6-10% of all salivary gland cancers. To help create awareness, Gilmore and her family promote Jamie’s Hope by selling maroon and white bracelets for $5. They also collect donations through the website jamieshope.org. “The money we raise funds research for other rare forms of cancer and for people who don’t have a standard form of treatment,” Gilmore says. Jamie’s Hope also partnered with the Texas Realtors® Leadership Program (TRL), after Gilmore, who owns a real estate brokerage firm, joined in March. With the TRL’s help, Jamie’s Hope organized an October gala, “Masquerade for a Cure,” at River Oaks Country Club in Houston, with all proceeds benefiting targeted therapy research at MD Anderson. “Each year the TRL decides on a legacy project that will benefit the community,” Gilmore says. “Once they heard my story and what I’ve...
